When I first starting running in 2008, I thought all I needed to do was to run more which would help my legs get stronger. I mistakenly thought I would build up endurance and body strength simply by running. Wrong! I needed to develop muscles in my arms and back, strengthen my core, and cross train 3X per week for cardiovascular benefit. I have been adhering to my customized weekly training schedule developed by Coach Debbie since 2008. Coach Debbie customizes my weekly training to fit my age (60) and fitness level (people stop and ask me how old I am since they are intrigued and impressed by my muscle tone and fitness level). I also have a personalized workout session with Coach Debbie once a week and find this adds variety, motivation and inspiration to my training regime. I ran my third marathon in February 2012 and placed 4th in my age group. I finished 15-minutes faster than my finish time in the 2010 ING NYC Marathon. As I am aging I thought I would be slowing down, yet I am thrilled to report that I am improving. My half marathon finish times have dramatically improved to the point that I will meet a 2:00:00 or less finish time sooner than later without overtraining. As you can see, I’m a late bloomer, but I’m blooming where I’ve been planted – under the professional guidance of Coach Debbie – and having fun while staying fit and healthy!
